The Trump administration is slapping illegal immigrants who’ve refused to obey court orders to leave the country with fines up to $500,000.
“It’s the intention of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to order you pay a fine in the amount of $497,777,” read an ICE letter to Edith Espinal Moreno dated June 25th, according to a report by National Public Radio (NPR).
ICE spokespersons have confirmed to journalists that the organization is indeed sending these notices to illegal immigrants who have been ordered to leave the country, but who have failed to do so.
According to a recent statement from ICE, “The Immigration and Nationality Act grants U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement the authority to impose civil fines on aliens who have been ordered removed or granted voluntary departure and fail to depart the United States.”
In the same statement, ICE said that it remains “committed to using various enforcement methods – including arrest; detention; technological monitoring; and financial penalties – to enforce U.S. immigration law and maintain the integrity of legal orders issued by judges.”
The agency also referenced a January 2017 executive order which called on the government to impose fines on illegal aliens who’ve overstayed their welcome.
ICE said that it started sending out fines in December 2018. Illegal immigrants who ignore deportation orders are subject to an initial fine of around $3,000 – a fine which can increase by no more than $500 for each day they remain in the U.S. illegally.
The report about the $500,000 fines follows Trump’s June announcement that ICE would be carrying out mass arrests and deportations of illegal immigrants who’ve ignored orders to leave the country. The plan – which would have been carried out across major cities and would have targeted about two thousand illegal immigrants – was called off just one day before it was set to be executed.
Trump, on June 22nd, said that the plan will take place at a later date. He wrote: “At the request of Democrats, I have delayed the Illegal Immigration Removal Process (Deportation) for two weeks to see if the Democrats and Republicans can get together and work out a solution to the Asylum and Loophole problems at the Southern Border. If not, Deportations start!”
Trump’s decision to postpone the raids until a later date drew harsh criticism from Republican Senator Tom Cotton, who said that illegal immigrants who’ve received orders to leave from ICE should be removed from the country immediately.
“These are people who have claimed asylum in our country; they’ve had their day in court; they’ve had their claims rejected, and now they face a valid and final order of removal,” Cotton said during an interview with Fox News Sunday‘s Chris Wallace
“If we can’t deport people like that, who can we deport? That’s why the Democrats’ position ultimately comes back to, in essence, open borders,” he added.
The illegals have broken the law twice, one for coming illegally and one for not leaving after their court appearance. They need to be deported immediately, they are taking jobs from the American people that need them, and using resources like welfare that is there for citizens.

Accountability and enforcement are the only reason that our laws work and that our country can function. Lack of effective enforcement at the borders, in congress, and letting states like California, and cities in this country that are using social stigma AND RACISM as an excuse not to stop rioting and personal property damage need to feel the brunt of harsh enforcement.

I am personally affected by illegals taking american jobs in my line of work. I can’t make a fair living cause I have to compete with them.I remember growing up and fast food restaurants where employed by many school kids trying to be productive in life. Now a days you have to learn how to order a burger in spanish, doesn’t make sense.
Yes, I am of Irish descent and when my great grandmother came to America, she came prepared to work hard and pay her own way. Unfortunately, the illegals invading America today are coming because they know once they land here, we will be obligated to support them…..big difference.
