Trump: US is Actually Considering Buying Greenland

President Trump has cleared the air about what many believed to be an Internet joke. He has gone on record as saying that the US is seriously considering the purchase of Greenland – the largest island in the world.

In what he has referred to as basically a “real estate deal,” Trump said over the past weekend that Denmark has been losing money by keeping Greenland under its control.

“Essentially it’s a large real estate deal. A lot of things can be done. It’s hurting Denmark very badly because they’re losing almost $700 million a year carrying it,” he said. “So, they carry it at great loss, and strategically for the United States, it would be nice. And, we’re a big ally of Denmark and we help Denmark, and we protect Denmark.”

Trump said he may be visiting Greenland in the near future, but claimed the issue was not a top priority for the administration.

“I’m thinking about going there. I’m not necessarily, definitely going there, but I may be going. We’re going to Poland and then we may be going to Denmark — not for this reason at all, but we’re looking at it,” he said. “It’s not number one on the burner.”

“Greenland Is Not for Sale”

The only problem with Trump’s plan is, that apparently, although flattered by the offer, Greenland is not for sale.

“We see it as an expression of greater interest in investing in our country and the possibilities we offer,” Greenland’s government said last week. “Of course, Greenland is not for sale.”

White House chief economic adviser Larry Kudlow had confirmed the reports earlier in the day during an interview on “Fox News Sunday” and said it was under consideration.

“It’s an interesting story. It’s developing. We’re looking at it, we don’t know,” Kudlow said. “Years ago, [then-President] Harry Truman wanted to buy Greenland. Denmark owns Greenland, Denmark is an ally.”

The Wall Street Journal earlier reported that President Trump was interested in purchasing Greenland and the White House would seek to capitalize on its “abundant resources and geopolitical importance.”

“Greenland is a strategic place up there, and they’ve got a lot of valuable minerals,” Kudlow added.

“I don’t want to predict an outcome. I’m just saying the president, who knows a thing or two about buying real estate, wants to take a look.”

Perhaps President Trump will consider a straight-up trade for Puerto Rico?

  1. The American People should stop and think about the shape this Country has got into first. This Country has got into an awful Debt and also we have those leaches storming into America from our southern border that we the Tax Payers have to support courtesy of those Democrats in Washington DC !! On top of all of that Denmark don`t want to sell Greenland !! America is not able to support the rest of the World !! Thank You !!

  2. IN ITSELF, THIS IS NOT A BAD IDEA AT ALL, BUT IT IS NOT REALISTIC. STRATICALLY, GREENLAND IS VERY IMPORTANT, BUT WE WOULD HAVE TO OBTAIN THE CONSENT OF BOTH THE KINGDOM OF DENMARK AND THE PEOPLE OF GREENLAND, WHICH IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY.

  3. Of course, the US wants Greenland for security reasons, but Greenland will be the people to decide if becoming Americans is a good thing for them.

  4. THE AMERICAN PEOPLE SHOULD NOT “PURCHASE” GREENLAND! IF, DONALD TRUMP WANTS TO “PURCHASE” GREENLAND, THEN HE SHOULD PAY FOR GREENLAND OUT OF HIS OWN POCKET!

  5. I hope somehow, at some point we are able to purchase Greenland at a fair price. If we wait some years for the earths natural cycle to warm the island, we might have the same conditions that the Vikings found on the island when they arrived there in about 1000 A.D. The Vikings found lush forests and high grass valleys and meadows. They loved the temperate climate and brought their cattle which fluorished there for 500 years. Around 1500, the climate became increasingly cooler, the trees died, the grassed died and the Vikings abandoned Greenland and returned home to the mainland.

  6. I can only say that President Trump is a professional at real estate, therefore is knowledge far supersedes mine. If he says trade for Puerto Rico or buy, I say, do what the President says.

  7. Yes, definitely acquire Greenland!!! We have a Base stationed there, and it would be an excellent arrangement to help protect the U.S. If they want P.R., that would be a-o.k. with me!!! They are nothing but trouble, and very costly!!!

  8. THE THREE ESSENTIALS TO LIFE ARE: 1.AIR, 2.WATER & 3.FOOD. CLEAN DRINKABLE WATER IS IN SHORT SUPPLY IN MANY COUNTRIES, GREENLAND HAS AN ABUNDANCE OF PURE CLEAN DRINKABLE WATER. IT IS SAID THAT THE NEXT MAJOR WAR WILL NOT BE FORGHT OVER OIL OR GOLD, RATHER PURE DRINKABLE WATER. BUY
    GREENLAND IMMEDIATELY!! [email protected]

  9. Sell Puerto Rico to the highest bidder and use the money to buy Greenland. Then homestead Greenland with free land grants like they did the Midwest. Works for me.

  10. It would be an economic boom for Greenland and the US. Who now-days complains about the Gadsen Purchase, or Stewarts folly. Alaska and South West US. We don’t generally incorporate territory by conquest. Or we may have owned half the world by now. However it makes sense, as it dos for various individual Mexican states to secede from the union and seek protection if not union with the US.

  11. I think he is bringing awareness to something that people had no idea about. Who knew right? He has brought a lot of things up WE THE PEOPLE had no idea was going on. The deep state wants to keep these things secret and I am glad we finally have a president that is transparent!

  12. Yes, We ought to Purchase Greenland and cut a deal with Denmark that they can’t refuse — Trump is a genius.

  13. Would someone tell “Bone Spur” to resign. His presidency has been nothing but a disaster. One controversy after another. Have him return to his favorite pass time, “grabbing pussies’. Seems as though that’s all he’s good at.

  14. Yes go after Greenland. We are a good fit. Vast open land full of mineral potential, just like Alaska was. We can take our Amish over there who know Dutch language for translators. Horse and buggy mo fo’s. With lots of land to roam around. Good fishing industry for better diet. Win win

    • Yes sir, Mr. President Donald Trump; I do Believe Greenland will be Good for U.S. Leader to Buy. Go, Mr. President All, you’ve Done is Make Us Great Once Again, Thank you & Prayers 😉 Rebecca

  15. WHEN YOU STOP AND THINK OF THE BENEFIT—ALONG WITH THE PRO’S AND CON’S i’D SAY GO AHEAD AND TRY. wE WOULD BE CLOSE TO THE ARTIC FOR BENEFITS.- FISHING AND MINERAL DEPOSITS. AND WHO KNOWS HOW THE REST OF GREENLAND LOOKS LIKE FROM THE SKY TO JUDGE BETTER. wE ALSO WOULD BE HELPING THE NATIVE PEOPLE WHO ALREADY LIVE ON THE LAND AND ALSO LEARN FROM THEM!!! wE HAD A BASE THERE DURING WW2. hOW DO WE KNOW UNLESS WE GO AND SEE WHAT THE WHOLE ARE LOOKS LIKE.!!

  16. I say buy it! It, would certainly help for America to be a greater expansive nation internationally! I’d have no problem moving there!

  17. YES !!!!!! the inhabitants will be hence forth know as Gernies and will be US Residents Maybe citizens Maybe the 51 state But will they become Republicans or Democrats???

  18. I am very much a supporter of the President, but not on this. Leave Greenland the hell a lone. They do not want to be bought, by the US or anyone else.

  19. Is he nuts??? We can’t even support what we already have, let alone pay the nearly trillion dollars we are in debt. Get serious!

  20. Don’t BUY IT, Pres. Trump, trade CA and all the igorant, brain-damaged Celebs and Dim Politicians along with it….Hope you get it then we can throw out all the Dim Dems. It would be heaven to them, they can have all the sex, weirdo’s and live like the animals they are……GO, GO, GO PRES. TRUMP…..

  21. Trump is an idiot and a total embarrassment to America. He got his feelings hurt because Denmark thought it absurd that the US would ask to buy Greenland. So he had a baby tantrum and cancelled the State Visit. Class act!

  22. Trump must have a good reason !! He knows best!
Glad too he wants to stop the Chinese from keep selling all
their products where as the Chinese has given jobs to their people forcing us to close our factories !! No way
The Chinese should be glad the custom duties are only
    25%. instead of 50% !!!!!
The Chinese should be smart and accept our
proposal ! After all the way it has been,
resulted that the Chinese have our dollars!
    No more!!!

  23. The Dans are just being good negotiators. Of course they would say no right off the bat. Trump can out negotiate them, though. We should buy Greenland. It would be a good investment. Think I’ll start looking at real estate in Greenland.

  24. The important thing to remember is that Denmark is an ally. Not only is it an ally but a NATO ally. Perhaps the other NATO allies have a say in what goes on between the US and Denmark. Right now, we should be more concerned about the Muslim takeover of some of our NATO allies like France, Britain, and Germany.

  25. I’m with Pamela. I think that California & Denmark would make a good trade, as long as we cut CA off from the US & it floats in the Atlantic Ocean.

  26. A 99 year lease for Greenland would probably not be as hard to get from either Denmark or the folks in Greenland. We do need Greenland for its position on the earth and its value for military preparedness.
