While rumors have swirled about “will he, or won’t he,” there have been reports that former New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg is planning on entering the 2020 Democratic race.
According to reporting by the New York Times and other news outlets, Bloomberg is expected to file paperwork this week which will allow him to run in Alabama’s Democratic primary.
The billionaire businessman has reportedly been privately weighing a bid for the White House for weeks, an adviser told the newspaper, but has not made up his mind. Although Alabama does not hold an early primary, candidates who want to formally enter the 2020 presidential race in the state must file paperwork by this Friday. According to The Times, Bloomberg has sent several staffers to Alabama to gather the signatures necessary to qualify for the primary.
“We now need to finish the job and ensure that Trump is defeated—but Mike is increasingly concerned that the current field of candidates is not well-positioned to do that,” Howard Wolfson, a close adviser to Bloomberg, said. “If Mike runs he would offer a new choice to Democrats built on a unique record running America’s biggest city, building a business from scratch and taking on some of America’s toughest challenges as a high-impact philanthropist.”
But, how much weight being mayor of NYC carries remains to be seen. Current NYC Mayor, Bill de Blasio was forced to abandon his bid for the 2020 presidential nomination back in September, failing to even rise to 1% in the polls during his campaign.
And, another very well-known former New York City mayor – Rudolf Giuliani is now at the very center of the Ukraine impeachment controversy.
Not well positioned to beat Trump. Wow, that is an understatement if I ever heard one. And this guy, who knows what his chances will be. The other candidates will say he is just another billionnaire and establishment person. It would be interesting to see him in the debates. That will make or break him. Better get used to insults.
