Jeff Sessions Seeks a Return to Politics

Sources say that former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, has expressed his interest in wanting to once again run for the Alabama Senate seat he held before joining the Trump administration.

Those familiar with Sessions’ intentions say that his official announcement is likely to happen on Thursday’s broadcast of Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” where he is scheduled as a guest.

Should Sessions enter the contest, he would join a crowded field of Republicans already running to take on Democratic incumbent Sen. Doug Jones. The filing deadline closes the afternoon of Friday 11/8.

Sessions has not spoken with President Trump or Majority Leader Mitch McConnell about running for his old Senate seat, the sources said. He has hired Curt Anderson of On Message to be his campaign consultant.

Other Republicans running include U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne, former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville, former Alabama Supreme Court chief justice Roy Moore, Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill, businessman Stanley Adair and state Rep. Arnold Mooney.

Sessions, who resigned from the Justice Department a year ago — amid public attacks from the president he served — was at one time, one of Trump’s most loyal and trusted advisers. But that was before their relationship blew-up over his recusal from the Russia investigation.

Prior to Sessions’ resignation last year, Trump repeatedly lambasted Sessions over his recusal, saying he wouldn’t have installed him as the country’s top law enforcement officer had he known his attorney general would recuse himself from the Russia probe.

Trump’s falling out with Sessions was remarkable, considering the pivotal and trusted role the Alabama Republican once played for Trump during the campaign.

A major question hanging over Sessions’ entrance into the race is whether Trump — who remains popular in Alabama, will let bygones-be-bygones, and support his former friend’s bid, or he will take steps to derail his campaign.

Trump is scheduled to visit Alabama this weekend to attend the Alabama-LSU college football game on Saturday.

  1. JEFF SESSIONS IS NOT BELOVED BY ALABAMIANS AS SOME IN THE PRESS HAVE SAID. HE TOOK LOTS OF PAC MONEY FROM
BOTH SIDES OF A PHARMACY BILL IN THE ALABAMA LEGISLATURE YEARS AGO AND THEN VOTED FOR THE BIG CHAINS INSTEAD OF
HELPING THE INDEPENDENTS. THERE ARE MANY OTHER TIMES HE WOULD VOTE ON THE SIDE OF THE MOST MONEY AND KEEP ALL OF IT.
HE IS NOT INTELLIGENT ENOUGH TO EVEN BE IN OUR GOVERNMENT AND WILL NOT DO ANYTHING IF NOT PAY-FOR-PLAY. HE COULD
NOT BE HANDLING THE AG POSITION IN WASHINGTON IF HE HAD STAYED THERE AS HE HAS NOT PRACTICED LAW IN SO MANY YEARS BECAUSE HE WAS IN THE SWAMP IN WASHINGTON. WE ARE SUPPORTING TOMMY TUBERVILLE FOR OUR SENATOR AS HE IS THE MOST HONEST AND IS DEEPLY CONCERNED ABOUT OUR STATE AND COUNTRY AND ALL THE CURRENT PROBLEMS WITH THE HELP OF GOD. HE IS FOR BUILDING THE WALL, SECOND AMENDMENT AND PROLIFE, ETC.

  2. I’d rather have Flynn than Sessions….who is part of Rino Estabilshment. Sessions is a politician, Flynn is a decorated General who has put his life in harm’s way. Sessions knew about this coup against the President and abandoned the President. General Flynn, though he made an error…lesson learned, will not abandon his post. And not being a politician, was singled out by the Mueller hatchet men. Flynn SHOULD be brought back. Sessions is you get with a RINO !

  3. I would be very cautious about him returning to politics, as a for.
Especially since the demonrats are trying to impeach President Trump.
He’s more like one of the three that return against TRUMP when two leave or cut out.

  4. I am one of the most who happen to believe interactions between trump and Ukraine is not impeachable offense , that said if trump had any brains he would have others call Ukraine rather than himself . That says a lot about his naivety wich is not impeachable offense

  5. Sessions is the nearest thing to nothing other than a liberal communist that the voters of Alabama could chose. He was a gutless anti Trump wonder as an attorney general.

  6. Jeff Sessions has proven he has no place in politics…he is just a good ole’ boy who does not have the backbone to stand up to other politicians…he just goes along for the ride….regardless of where is is going.
