Trump calls Trudeau two-faced after video surfaces of the Canadian PM mocking him.
President Donald Trump called Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau “two-faced” on Wednesday after video surfaced of Trudeau making fun of the president for taking long press conferences.
The Canadian prime minister found himself in hot water on Tuesday after he was caught on a hot mic complaining to French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson about Trump making everyone late because of his long press conferences
It was during a bilateral meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the 2019 NATO Summit when Trump called Trudeau “two faced”. President Trump told reporters that Trudeau was likely lashing out because he’s angry that the U.S. has aggressively lobbied for Canada to allocate two percent of its GDP to NATO, as per the multilateral agreement.
“Well, he’s two-faced. And with Trudeau, he’s a nice guy. I find him to be a nice guy, but the truth is, I called him out on the fact that he’s not paying two percent, and I guess he’s not very happy about it. I mean, you were there. A couple of you were there,” Trump said after a journalist asked him about the Canadian PMs less than kind remarks.
Trump went on to say, “It’s Canada. They have money. And they should be paying 2 percent. So I called him out on that, and I’m sure he wasn’t happy about that, but that’s the way it is. Look, I’m representing the U.S. and he should be paying more than what he’s paying. And he understands it. So I can imagine he’s not happy. But that’s the way it is.”
