Young Republicans rally to save Roosevelt statue: ‘I’ve never heard of a free society that wants to erase the past’

On Sunday, the New York Young Republican Club rallied around the statue of Theodore Roosevelt to defend the 26th president of the United States outside of the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.

“You’ll never be able to make a better future if you erase our past. And that’s something that happens in tyrannical regimes,” Gavin Wax, president of the New York Young Republican Club told Fox News. “I’ve never heard of a free society that wants to erase the past.”

Wax says it’s about more than just Roosevelt’s statue, or any of the statues that have been taken down or defaced by riots and protesters.

“They’re trying to judge people, premodern people, by postmodern standards of morality and by that rate we’ll have no future because we’ll have to erase all of human history,” Wax said. “You have to look at the good people did. No one’s perfect. No one’s a saint. And you could find some flaws, especially in people from the past. But that should be no excuse to erase that, we need to learn from the past.”

The museum declined Fox News’ request for an interview, but on June 21 it posted a press release on its website asking for the removal of the statue.

“The statue has long been controversial because of the hierarchical composition that places one figure on horseback and the others walking alongside.” The release went on to say, “Many of us find its depictions of the Native American and African figures and their placement in the monument racist … We recognize that more work is needed to better understand not only the statue but our own history.”

Teddy Roosevelt was a progressive ahead of his time. He was a colonel in the U.S. Army who led the Rough Riders at the Battle of San Juan Hill. He fought against large corporate monopolies and was the first president to have a black man, Booker T. Washington, dine with him at the White House.

Roosevelt also established an entirely black cabinet of advisers, something no other president repeated until his cousin, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, organized a similar cabinet to help African-Americans during the Great Depression. Teddy Roosevelt also established 230 million acres of public land, including five national parks and 18 national monuments.

  1. This is what happens when you no longer have “schools” or universities that teach. They are only there to INDOCTRINATE and turn the students into mindless obedient drones that will be good little communists after graduation.

  2. I was beginning to wonder if there were any young people who had any brains that could actually think of what these unhinged morons were doing to the Heritage, History and culture to this country.

I must say it is about time the young spoke up, and it is past time those who have any sense stands up and put this country back on the right track. Pandering any ethnic, religious, race or group is not in the Constitution and everything is not going to be exactly how we or you want it, but that is what a DEMOCRACY IS. Congress nor our Government was meant to be a NANNY, nor was our country developed to be regulated by Congress to cover SOCIAL ISSUE.

ALL LIVES MATTER, ALL LAW MATTER, AND NO ONE,NOT EVEN PELOSI OR TRUMP OR THE CLINTONS DESERVE TO BE TREATED DIFFERENTLY. WE NEED TO RESPECT EVERYONE UNTIL THEY DON’T DESERVE IT. MEANING YOU EARN RESPECT UNLIKE YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL FREEDOMS YOU HAVE TO EARN RESPECT.

  3. Good for you! You think for yourself and aren’t afraid to stand up against wrong. Wishing you peace and prosperity.

  4. All this violent ravaging going on while not a peep out of our so called elite Democrat politicians. They approve of all this division and violence. Why would anyone in the world vote for any one of the current breed of anti-American Democrat politicians currently in power.

  5. It was not San Juan Hill…it was the hill next to it.
Wood had already been appointed colonel and in charge of the force (called Roosevelt’s Rough Riders) before assembling the military and doing te training.

  6. Every person is imperfect, whether famous or barely known. Patriotic Americans know this and are Not offended by statues of Americans judged today as being unworthy of recognition. Dictators erase the past because they are self-absorbed and cannot share the spotlight with previous leaders and their accomplishments. America was not like this until now. Wise people learn from history, either what to do or not to do. Erasing history is like sailing a ship without a rudder, resulting in an erratic course with no forward progress.

  7. I am no longer certain the place you are getting
your info, however good topic. I must spend a while finding out
much more or figuring out more. Thanks for magnificent information I used to
be in search of this information for my mission.
