ESPN Thinks NBA is Racist?

ESPN sports commentator Stephen A. Smith blasted the Brooklyn Nets hiring of Steve Nash as their head coach, calling the move a sign of “white privilege.”

Smith prefaced his comments on white privilege noting that Nash has a lot of experience on the court, is extremely intelligent, is universally liked, is a leader, and deserves this opportunity. But then Smith segues to the claim that because Nash is white, he doesn’t deserve it as much as black candidates might.

“There is no way around it,” Stephen A. Smith said of the Nets bringing on Nash. “This is white privilege. This doesn’t happen for a black man.

“No experience whatsoever on any level as a coach? And you get the Brooklyn Nets job?” Smith said incredulous.

Smith went on to list several black candidates who were passed up for the Nets top coaching job, adding that they were “passed up. For a guy… that has no experience whatsoever.”

“In these times where we’re making all of this noise about social justice,” Smith raved, “Yes, that was the tipping point — George Floyd’s killing, his murder, you know violence against black men who are unarmed — all of that stuff is true.” He added that the “proverbial glass ceiling” breeds frustration among blacks.

“How the hell does this always happen for somebody else, other than us?” he continued. “Why is it we have to be twice as good to get half as much? Why is it that no matter what we do and how hard we work… somehow, some way, there’s another excuse to ignore that criteria, to ignore those credentials, and instead bypass it, and make an exception to the rule for someone other than us!”

The Nets hiring of Nash made Smith “depressed.”

“Now we got Steve Nash who has no coaching resume,” Smith said warming to his conclusion, “yet again, we find ourselves looking at a situation as black people — you know what, as egregious as it is to kill an unarmed black man, to shoot him and things of that nature — there are a multitude of ways where black folks, particularly black men, have been sliced and diced up, and thrown out to pasture.

“I’m just saying — damn — as time changes, things remain the same,” he concluded.

  1. How snd why is it that again “race” and or “racism” is being used. Most of the players in the NBA are black?

  2. Cut the bull. Basketball and Football in the U.S. needs to hire other ethnicities besides Black. It’s high time there was diversity. Also stop hiring thugs.

  3. Wow now a white man cant do anything. Steven S got depressed oh my, maybe just maybe he’s depressed enough to stay in bed till he dies! I’m so sick of the political crap being spewed on sport shows. These people haves ruined the sports for millions of us. Just might watch a game of each to write down the names of advertisers and let them know they can keep their products!! So fed up !

  4. Yes the NBA is racist, against whites. The white race is a true minority in the NBA. Unfair drafting practices
and unfair hiring. The black players make up over 80% of the league and still cry foul. But with over 80% of the fans
being white, it is now time to boycott this nonsense until it becomes equal in percent. Help defund the NBA by not watching or supporting this racism nonsense. I hope they all lose their jobs and work like the rest of of us.

  5. I envy M. Smith since he, apparently, has a functional crystal ball and has seen th4 “thinking” of the ownership in making their decision to hir4 Nash.
If I were an owner, I would attempt to hire a person who would offer my team its best opportunity to be a better team; I would not think about skin color, religion, or any other non-basketball attribute.
If I were to consider skin color, I should be characterized as a racist.
Uh, oh! What does that mak4 Mr. Smith.
    Will the NBA admonish him???

I have never wanted to listen to Stephen Smith, he is just a big mouth thinks he knows it all.,Go find another job to try to destroy peope.

  7. WHY DID YOU TAKE MY LAST RESPOND DOWN? iT JUST TOLD THE TRUTH ABOUT Stephen Smith. He is a big mouth and cause a ot of racist problems,

Not fair to take down truthful responds,,

  8. If any white person is still watching the NBA on tv or attending the games, you are an out of touch, ignorant person who deserves every insult you get from the media and the racist players themselves. I’m hoping most of the sports franchises go out of business.

  9. I can’t stand this dude. He is the biggest (wannabe) thug on TV. Always running his mouth and not good at his job at all. He sounds like a street corner drug dealer when he talks. If you have ever heard him do UFC you know how stupid this man is, or if you have ever seen him train. Ridiculous!
This white privilege is getting old and more an more I’m becoming racist. If I’d say what he said about a black man I’d have 100 stupid rich white kids w/blue,purple,green or pink hair in my yard screaming for justice. Well the only difference between me an those White people in St.Louis is ill shoot you in the face!!!!!
    Civil War comes, I’m in!

  10. Last time I checked “blacks” only represent 13% of the population. I guess we are now seeing black privilege? Just look at television and see a lot more black faces now on commercials. I’m sick of it !!!!!!!!
