Biden Nominee Says Tax Payer Funded Abortions ‘Necessary for Racial Justice’

Shalanda Young, President Joe Biden’s pick for deputy budget director, said that abortion is “a matter of economic and racial justice.”

Young’s opinion on abortion went public after her nomination moved forward out of the Senate Budget Committee and Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Young earned bipartisan support on Capitol Hill, but 15 of the 18 Republicans who sit on both committees ultimately voted against advancing her nomination.

The Republican senators who voted against Young cited her view on the Hyde Amendment, the law that prohibits federal tax dollars from funding abortions, except in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother.

Young told senators that eliminating the Hyde Amendment is necessary to promote “racial justice.”

“The President has spoken in favor of Congress ending the Hyde Amendment as part of his commitment to providing comprehensive health care for all women,” Young said.

“Further, eliminating the Hyde Amendment is a matter of economic and racial justice because it most significantly impacts Medicaid recipients, who are low-income and more likely to be women of color,” she added.

Ohio Senator Rob Portman (R) said he initially supported Young’s nomination. But after he learned of her position on the Hyde Amendment, he changed his mind.

“I had planned to support Ms. Young based on her testimony before the committee,” Portman said. “In reviewing her answers to the committee’s questions for the record, though, I’ve got to say I was really troubled by her responses, particularly her strong advocacy for eliminating the Hyde amendment.”

Surprisingly, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), the ranking member of the Budget Committee, voted to advance Young’s nomination. However, he did want reassurances that she would not support regulation that “changes Hyde or chips away at it.”

Senate Homeland Security Chairman Gary Peters (D-Mich.) expressed concern over sudden opposition by Republicans. He said Young’s views are “fact.”

“In her written responses, Ms. Young stated that ending the Hyde amendment is a matter of economic and racial justice because its impact is felt most among low-income women of color. This is simply a statement of fact,” Peters said. “But she also confirmed that she will follow current law, which includes the Hyde amendment. So I have a hard time following the objections of my Republican colleagues.”

  1. I’m so sick of these people demanding this and that when is someone going to step up and say enough of thier BS already I am anti abortion and I’ll be damned if I have to pay for someone else’s bad decision for getting pregnant in the first place,if you don’t want a baby either take precautions or just keep your legs closed

  2. Ask this amazing genius (not) one simple question about her “racial justice:” Give us your best genius reasoning for WHY the black representation in America’s population has stagnated at 12%-13% for decades and is projected to remain stagnant into 2050 and beyond? The follow-up question, no matter what her non-intelligent reply is, would be to ask HOW has the Latin population overtaken the black population and now EXCEEDS black numbers by +5%! Perhaps this genius has the acumen to understand WHY her acolytes in crime desire to have that (non) Southern border remain OPEN, her community no longer has the determining balance in America’s elections! She may think she should learn Spanish, however, I recommend rounding up something like that Rosetta Stone program and instead learn Mandarin, because China is coming for supremacy!

  3. NO, the black people need to practice safe sex, it is not are responsibility/cost to pay for their careless sex behavior and Shalanda Young needs to stop using the race card !

  5. I don’t believe that it should be changed at all. Rape, incest, or mother danger of death is all.
And what is women of color? White, black, yellow, brown, or what?
If you don’t want children don’t have sex or maybe have protection. That would be a good idea huh??

  6. Hyde amendment stays. Taxpayers shouldn’t have to pay, especially for poor or bad judgement. Use protection or get an operation to stop pregnancy for ever. Take responsibility for your mistakes and make the father step up and pay.
