Israel Palestine Cease Fire Solves Nothing

First a little history.

The state of Israel was created after World War II to give the Jewish people a land of their own after 1700 years of being without an official nation.  Jews ruled over Palestine until the 4th Century when Roman Christians took over the region.  In the 7th Century the region was conquered by the Muslim Arab empire and became part of the Muslim califate that later led to the Ottoman Empire.

It was not until the late 1800s that the Zionist movement rose to press for a Jewish nation.  That triggered the Jewish/Muslim conflict that we see being played out for the past 150 years.  It also resulted in the rise of anti-Semitism in Europe – despite laws that “emancipated” Jews in France (1791), Greece (1830), Great Britain (1858), Italy (1870), Germany (1871) and Norway (1891).

After the holocaust of World War II, President Woodrow Wilson’s short-lived League of Nations gave Britain the commission to create a homeland for Jews in the old Palestinian region – as well as establishing borders for the Arab states.

At the onset, the Arab nations were united in their determination to destroy Israel as a nation and commit genocide against the Jewish population in the Middle East – and elsewhere.  Thanks to the power of the United States and Israel’s allies in Europe, the Jewish state grew rich and powerful.  It provided a lifestyle better than most of the Arab nations – deepening Arab jealousy.

Since the Six Day War in 1967 — when Israel defeated Egypt and took control of the West Bank and Gaza — the Palestinians have empowered the recognized terrorist groups, Hamas and Hezbollah, to take control as the governing authority.

As the durability of the Jewish state became more apparent, Arab nations began to accept the right of Israel to exist and the value to both sides in developing commercial ties.  This led to the 1979 peace treaty between Israel and Egypt.  More recently, the Trump administration successfully negotiated the Abraham Accords between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.  That was followed by similar agreements with Sudan and Morocco in 2020.

The simmering Muslim war on Israel’s existence began to ebb – except for a few Muslim extremist nations and the terrorist organizations that they created and funded.  Iran, of course, being the most prominent among them.  Other nations antagonistic to Israel, such as Iraq and Libya, have largely lost their desire and ability to carry out international terrorism against the Jewish state.

In the early 2000s, the radical Islamic terrorist group Hamas moved into Palestine to challenge the authority of the governing Palestinian Liberation Authority (PLO).  In 2005, Israel began a “disengagement plan” and closed a number of Jewish settlements in Gaza and removed its military.

Unfortunately, this move toward a peaceful resolution ended in less than a year.  In 2006, The PLO lost a parliamentary election to Hamas’ candidates. And in 2007, war broke out between the PLO and Hamas – leaving the territory under the divided control of the two groups to this day.

This year, the widely recognized to be corrupt PLO, led by Mahmoud Abbas, was facing a likely election defeat at the hands of Hamas – so the election was canceled.

Regardless, it is apparent that Hamas is expanding its control over the Gaza Strip.  This will make a peaceful resolution–with apologies for the clash of words – even more impossible.

Sooooo … what should be done about the situation as it exists today?

The first thing is what we should NOT do.  We should not go back to the policy of ending a cease fire to pursue the tried and failed so-called “two state solution.”  Good God!  How long do we have to go down that repeatedly miserably failed approach?  It will NEVER result in a solution – only the same generational stalemate we have seen over and over in the past – and occasionally outbreaks of violence.

It is okay to have the creation of two states as ONE of many options.  But those who say it is the ONLY way to arrive at peace between Israel and the Hamas-led Palestinians are not really seeking a resolution.  They are perfectly happy pursuing the same old diplomatic chit-chat for the foreseeable future.  They really do not care about the casualties and the suffering of those living in a war zone.

In fact, Hamas intentionally produces many of the deaths and injuries among the Palestinian civilian population by their callous positioning of military targets in the proximity of the most vulnerable citizens – places like hospitals and schools.

The two-state solution is dead on arrival because it cannot – and should not – happen while the official posture of the Palestinian leadership – and too many of the indoctrinated people – is the eradication of the State of Israel and the slaughter of the Jewish people as infidels.

As long as the two-state solution is doomed to failure, there is only one other option. If Hamas is the governing power in Gaza, Israel must increase the pressure and take more severe actions to knock out the Hamas leadership.

They should use every public communication vehicle to inform the Palestinian people that as long as the Hamas terrorists are calling the shots, there will be no peace.  And if there are any more attacks on Israel from Gaza, or carried out in Israel by Hamas, the military responses will increase exponentially.  This same message should be made clear to Palestinians residing in Israel.

At the same time, Israel should assure the Palestinians that their rights will be recognized in any peaceful partnership.

Israel has every right to consider itself in a state of war with Gaza based on the missile and terrorist attacks.  The ultimate goal should be to win the “war” by taking control of Gaza and ending the influence and control of Hamas.

In the absence of any other solution – and in a continuation of Hamas’ aggressiveness – Israel has every right to invade Gaza as much as Allied forces eventually had to invade Germany to end World War II.  Israel would then be in a position of supervising the establishment of a responsible government in Gaza – as the Allies did in Germany, Italy, Japan and the rest of the Axis nations.

Such a move would be filled with human tragedies of all sorts.  That is how war is.  But they are tragedies caused by the recalcitrance of Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran – and their unrelenting genocidal terrorism against the Jewish people AND all Israel’s allies – especially the United States.

Let us not forget that Hamas is a recognized terrorist organization.  They have no legitimacy under international law.  Like all terrorist organizations, they are a cancer on the world.  And like ISIS, they need to be defeated and annihilated.

America can support Israel by diplomacy and maintaining the flow of military equipment to the Jewish state.  The U.S. should end all economic support for Gaza – and crank up the sanctions on Iran.  The ill-conceived Iran Nuclear Deal has already provided billions of dollars to the rogue regime in Tehran – money that is being spent to shoot missiles into Israel.

President Biden is right.  Israel has a right to live in peace … and to defend itself when attacked.  It is as simple as that.  He should make sure that American policy is consistent with his words.

So, there ‘tis.

  1. The political cartoon says it all! “The cease fire, solves nothing” except it allows Hammas to RELOAD!!

  2. LISTEN UP….GOD Gave JERUSALEM and the PROMiSED LAND to ISRAEL…FOREVER. GOD’S COVENANT with ISRAEL. WHO is ANYONE to TELL GOD Who HE Can FAVOR or BLESS???? NO ONE Outranks GOD. GOD is the RULER of MEN. From SamuraiQueen. 😄😄😄

  3. You left out one important detail. Gaza gets its water and electricity from Israel. The US funded a $5 billion water reclamation plant in Gaza as an attempt to increase its independence. It was within one month of going operational, one month! Hamas agents blew it up. They have no, as in zero, desire for peace or independence. The terrorists in Gaza want every Jew dead. The morons in this country who point the blame finger at Israel calling the genocides are just that, morons and/or Palestinians. As such, they should be removed from office as foreign agents.
