The Republican minority of the House Judiciary Committee has said that the Democrat’s case for impeachment is weak and “anemic.”
The minority has lambasted the committee’s rush to impeach President Trump and wrote that history will not look kindly on how exculpatory evidence was ignored to meet a “self-imposed December deadline,” according to the full articles of impeachment report, which was released on Monday morning.
The minority, which is comprised of Republicans, blasted the Democrat-led majority for not making the case for impeachment and simply employing “holdover” arguments from other investigations to make their case.
Despite the divide, Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., the chairman of the committee, wrote for the majority – in a nearly 700-page report — that Trump is a threat to the Constitution and should be removed from office.
The committee released a 658-page report on the impeachment resolution that lays out the case against Trump. Democrats have raised two articles of impeachable offenses, including “abuse of power” by soliciting Ukraine to interfere in the 2020 election and then “obstructing Congress” during its investigation.
In response, the Republican minority wrote that both articles are supported by assumptions and hearsay. The minority, headed by Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., the ranking member of the committee, wrote that the majority decided to “pursue impeachment first and build a case second.”
The majority ignored exculpatory evidence but proclaimed the “facts are uncontested,” the minority wrote.
“The facts are contested, and, in many areas, the majority’s claims are directly contradicted by the evidence,” the minority wrote. They continued that “not one of the criminal accusations leveled at the president over the past year—including bribery, extortion, collusion/conspiracy with foreign enemies, or obstruction of justice—has found a place in the articles. Some of these arguments are just holdovers from an earlier disingenuous attempt by the majority to weaponize the Russia collusion investigation for political gain.”
The majority’s actions were “unprecedented, unjustifiable, and will only dilute the significance of the dire recourse that is impeachment,” they wrote.
The minority also claimed procedural missteps by the majority by not allowing a “minority day of hearings,” despite several requests to Nadler. They called the denial “blatant” and “intentional.” They claim Nadler also refused a request to subpoena witnesses. They wrote that there was a complete absence of “fact witnesses” and the case rested with the testimony from four academics and another with a panel of Congressional staffers.
The majority countered by claiming that they were transparent. The majority wrote that the minority wanted to hear testimony from the whistleblower, but the majority stressed the importance of protecting the person’s identity. The minority’s request to hear from Hunter Biden—the son of Joe Biden—was “well outside the scope of the inquiry,” the majority wrote.
The House is expected to vote on the articles next week, in the days before Christmas. That would send the impeachment effort to the Senate for a 2020 trial.
If you think that Impeachment is a joke, you are in denial. Denialism – In the psychology of human behavior, denialism is a person’s choice to deny reality as a way to avoid a psychologically uncomfortable truth. Denialism is an essentially irrational action that withholds the validation of a historical experience or event, when a person refuses to accept an empirically verifiable reality. In the face of overwhelming evidence, you still support Trump. That’s “denialism”.

Their hatred of President Donald Trump is the most important detail of this absurd impeachment charge and they think that is enough without any evidence that warrants it. They hate that he is bringing the economy to the greatest point in recent history, trying to stop illegals ( their voters) from just coming into our country committing crimes including murders and the liberal Democrats turn them loose to kill again. Am so tired of the Democrats creating facts out of hearsay, innuendo, and assumptions. There must be some way to shut them down completely and finally…I’m not smart enough to know how to do that, but certainly there are those who are!
Am not talking about making stuff up like the Dems do. But rather, use actual facts to shed some light on their dirty laundry. Most of these Senators and Representatives have been around a long time and we all know they take kickbacks, bribes, have paid people off, do favors/ask favors, etc. Some of them do have family money, but many of them became millionaires AFTER taking office. How did that happen? Where did that money come from? I’d be willing to bet that some of each of their millions was “ill gotten”. It’s time to start showing them for who they really are! Why don’t you let the people of the United States decide what’s a joke and what isn’t. I personally think that the president’s conduct during all this looks really squirmy. If it’s such a joke, then the president ought to participate in the hearings and make a case for himself. The only way he’s going to be able to silence the democrats, is to face them with the proper evidence and supporting witnesses, and show them what he is really about, if he’s in fact not guilty. My viewpoint is from the independent party, if you should call it that. I do not identify with the left or the right, and I can say if the president continues to treat this like a joke (regardless of whether it is or not), I believe the joke is on him. If he did no wrong, he’s going about proving it in all the wrong ways. Good luck to him. However, I do not support this online campaign, to say that impeachment of ANY president is a joke. I’m a Army Veteran of OEF 9-11 and I support the constitutional rights of each and every one of us, equally. It is the right of congress to exercise their impeachment inquiry and I personally feel they may be tired of this country being led by a TV personality, so they’re using his behavior to take him down. Whether right or wrong, the presidents reaction to all of this, does not send the message “I did nothing wrong” just because he says “I did nothing wrong”.
Mr. President, sir, if you did nothing wrong, please take the time to show our country who and what the real joke is, by testifying under oath, not over Twitter.
