The Los Angeles Police Department on Thursday announced that at least one police officer had contracted the deadly bacteria that causes typhoid fever, “Salmonella typhi” while another police officer is also being screened for the possibility that he too may have contracted the disease.

The officer who had contracted the illness is currently being treated at a local health facility in the city, while the other officer is being screened (however not yet confirmed), to also be infected.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the medieval disease affects only about 350 Americans a year, almost always traveling aboard to third-world nations. However, the common illness affects an estimated 22 million individuals usually living within filth and poverty, the same conditions that are now found in the city of Los Angeles.

The news of the unidentified police officer being infected by a third-world disease raised the ire of celebrity Doctor Drew Pinsky Thursday night on Fox’s “The Ingraham Angle” show.

The good doctor (a Los Angeles resident) took direct aim at the policies of progressive politicians for directly causing the health crisis, decrying that his city and the nations second-largest, is in “a complete breakdown.”

Adding “We have a complete breakdown of the basic needs of civilization in Los Angeles right now,” Pinsky told host Laura Ingraham. “We have the three prongs of airborne disease; tuberculosis is exploding, (and) rodent-borne. We are one of the only cities in the country that doesn’t have a rodent control program, and sanitation has broken down.”

Then in a rare emotional moment, Doctor Pinsky acknowledged that LA’s public health centers have “completely broken-down” adding “no city on earth tolerates this!” Doctor Pinsky went on to paint a grim picture of what the summer may have in store for LA. Reminding the Fox host of LA’s typhus outbreak last summer and predicting that this trend will continue perhaps a lot worst this summer, then last year.
Meanwhile, bubonic plague, a pandemic that killed tens of millions of people during the 14th century, is “likely” already present in Los Angeles, Pinsky added.

“This is unbelievable. I can’t believe I live in a city where this is not the Third World. This is medieval,” Pinsky said. “Third World countries are insulted if they are accused of being like this. No city on Earth tolerates this. The entire population is at risk.”

It has gotten so bad from just a few months ago that City Hall has either removed or is in the process of removing all carpeting within city buildings amid reports that city buildings (including City Hall) are being overrun by rats and fleas, as a new round of typhus outbreak has already engulfed the downtown area known as skid-row.

Council President Herb Wesson, at one point, was forced to move his entire staff to another location because of the rodent infestation. In another incident, Elizabeth Greenwood, a deputy city attorney who works in City Hall East, said she contracted typhus last fall experiencing high fever, vertigo and “the worst headache I have ever had in my life,” according to the LA Times.

The illness is spread by fleas that have been infected by rats and other vermin and can cause high fever, chills, headache, and rashes. It also tends to circulate in areas with heavy trash accumulation.

According to 2018 figures compiled by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, there are currently between 50,000 to 60,000 homeless living on the streets of Los Angeles County, making it the largest concentration in America, which makes it more likely that the epidemic will continue to grow within the coming months.
