Germany Throws Quarantine Breakers into Camps

Germany’s police force is reportedly using juvenile detention centers, fenced-in refugee camps, and hospitals to hold citizens that repeatedly violate quarantine rules, curfews, and other COVID restrictions.

Such activity is legal under the Disease Protection Act, but critics worry that Germany is crossing a line.

“German authorities have come under fire for their management of the pandemic, with proposals to impose national vaccine mandates in a bid to control the virus branded ‘social dynamite’ by opposition figures,” reports The Daily Mail. “It comes as Angela Merkel considers imposing a ‘mega-lockdown’ and suspending public transport after sparking a public backlash in the UK by calling ‘mutant’ COVID the ‘British virus.’”

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is pushing for another shutdown in response to an ultra-contagious variant of COVID detected in the UK last month.

Speaking on NBC this week, COVID expert Dr. Anthony Fauci described “more ominous” variants of the virus that are emerging in South Africa and Brazil. He also reminded viewers that there “is more than one mutant strain.”

As it stands, German residents who test positive for the virus or come into contact with someone who tested positive must self-quarantine for 14 days. Residents who return from a “high risk area” must quarantine for 10 days unless they receive a negative test result. Residents waiting on a test result must quarantine until they receive the result.

The fines for breaking quarantine rules can reach as high as $30,000.

“There is a lot of panic and hysteria,” says Roswitha Zeidler. Zeidler is a 60-year-old cleaning lady who lives in Meissen, a COVID hotspot. “Old people die all the time. I’m sick and tired of all the restrictions and predictions. I just want my life back,” she also said.

Chancellor Merkel will meet with state premiers this week to discuss whether additional restrictions are needed when COVID restrictions expire at the end of the month.

The situation in Germany has been exacerbated by the AfD Party, whose members are known to flout social distancing and face mask rules.

Germany’s per capita death toll was much lower than neighboring countries last year. However, it has increased dramatically over the past month. On average, more than 80% of beds in ICUs are occupied by COVID patients. In total, Germany has reported 2 million infections and 46,600 deaths. Just 1% of Germany’s population has been vaccinated.
